STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥Mississippi State鈥檚 Bulldog Motorsports Formula SAE team is hosting its annual Formula SAE Showcase Day next Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the IDEELab in the Patterson Engineering Laboratories.

The come-and-go event invites the community to get an up-close look at the team鈥檚 student-built formula-style race car and learn more about the engineering, manufacturing and business work that powers the program. Guests can chat with team members, watch driving demonstrations, and participate in low-stakes go-kart racing.

Isabelle Maisano, the business section lead for the Bulldog Motorsports FSAE team, said each year the showcase allows the team to show off their hard work to the community and allows them to talk about their work.

鈥淏uilding a racecar from the ground up is not something everyone can do, but here at 91传媒 with the Bulldog Motorsports FSAE team, we strive to make learning and innovation accessible to anyone interested in engineering, manufacturing, design and business while participating in a national and international program and competition,鈥 said the sophomore industrial engineering and business administration double major from Pasadena, Maryland. 鈥淥ur showcase day allows those outside our organization to see what we do and learn about us.鈥

Housed within the Michael W. Hall School of Mechanical Engineering, the Bulldog Motorsports FSAE team competes on an international level with universities from around the world at the yearly FSAE Michigan competition at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. The team recently achieved its highest ranking in program history, finishing 17th out of 120 in the 2024 competition.

FSAE is an international collegiate engineering competition that challenges student teams to design, build and race small, open-wheel, single-seater formula-style cars. Organized by SAE International, this program transforms classroom theory into real-world innovation as students take on every aspect of a complex engineering project鈥攆rom initial concept to track-ready prototype. Teams are evaluated not only on the speed of their cars but also on their design, manufacturing and marketing quality.

The competition includes static evaluations, such as design reviews and business presentations, as well as dynamic on-track challenges that measure speed, endurance and handling. With divisions for both gasoline-powered and electric vehicles, FSAE encompasses the full spectrum of the automotive industry, providing students a hands-on crash course in everything from research and development to financial planning and project management.
