STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ississippi State鈥檚 Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is planning to honor the National Pan-Hellenic Council with a new campus plaza and raising $1.6 million for the project.

To be located at the corner of George Perry and Barr Avenue, the space will help tell the history of NPHC organizations and respective 91传媒 chapters. Founded at Howard University in 1930, the NPHC is a governing council composed of the nine national historically African-American fraternities and sororities, also known as Black Greek-letter organizations.

Along with recognizing the NPHC community, the plaza will provide a new venue for chapter anniversaries, member presentations, Founder鈥檚 Day celebrations, alumni tailgates, social gatherings and more.

鈥淭he plaza will be a place where we can share history and the NPHC story with the rest of the 91传媒 community,鈥 said Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, Student Experience, Jackie Mullen, who oversees the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Student Activities. 鈥淕iving to this project can honor current organizations and pave the way for future students to benefit from this space and the sense of community it will provide.鈥

The project will commence once funds have been secured, she said.

The nine member organizations on campus are governed by the 91传媒 Chapter of NPHC with support from OFSL Assistant Director Roderick Davis, who serves as advisor.
